Jonas Tunc, a freshman defender from Göppingen, Germany, brings extensive youth experience and a strong international background to the USU Eastern soccer program. He graduated from Kaufmännische Schule Göppingen in 2025 and has played soccer since the age of four. Primarily a center back and left back, he spent two years with 1. FC Eislingen before joining Göppinger Sportverein for his first U19 season and later playing for Normannia Gmünd during his second U19 season. He competed at the Verbandsliga level and was a regular starter throughout much of his youth career.
One of the highlights of his youth career was winning the WFV-Pokal. During his first U19 season with Göppinger Sportverein, he also had the opportunity to regularly train with the club's first team, which competed in the Regionalliga Südwest. The experience provided him with valuable insight into the demands of higher-level soccer and helped him understand what it takes to compete at an advanced level. After a smaller role during the first half of his second U19 season, he earned his way back into the lineup and played approximately 90 percent of the team's games during the second half.
He comes from a close and supportive family. His parents, Noah Tunc and Elisabeth Tunc, have supported him throughout his academic and athletic journey and encouraged his decision to move to the United States to pursue his goals. He has an older brother and an older sister. His family has instilled in him the importance of hard work, commitment and humility while pursuing new opportunities.
Tunc chose to come to the United States to challenge himself in a new environment and continue developing both academically and athletically. He plans to study Business and build a strong academic foundation for his future beyond soccer. He chose USU Eastern because he felt the school and soccer program were a strong fit for his goals and current level of play. He sees the opportunity as a chance to compete at a high level, continue developing as a player and potentially use his experience as a stepping stone toward his future goals. He hopes to become the best soccer player and student he can be while representing USU Eastern with pride and taking advantage of every opportunity that comes his way.
