The Utah State Eastern softball team hosted the No. 21 College of Southern Idaho Golden Eagles for their final home series of the 2026 spring season. The Eagles entered the weekend having won four of the previous five games.
Eastern started the series with a two-run home run by Brooklyn Zajac in the bottom of the first inning. Eastern would score two more in the second inning on a Brielle Sandoval two-run shot, but the rest of the game went in CSI's favor. Eastern fell to CSI 22-4. Zajac and Sandoval led the Eagles offensively.
The Eagles were able to scatter a few runs in the second game, but it was not enough as Southern Idaho took game two, 14-5. Ainzleigh Quinn and Brooklyn Zajac each had two RBIs in the contest.
Looking for a reset, the Eagles went into the second day hoping for a split with Southern Idaho. CSI, however, had other plans, as USU Eastern was only able to generate offense in a three-run third inning. Jayda Spight hit a two-run triple and was later driven in by Brooklyn Zajac. Eastern fell in game three, 13-3.
In the series finale, the Eagles fell behind quickly but were able to tie the game in the bottom of the first inning. Brooklyn Zajac hit an RBI single before scoring on an Ainzleigh Quinn sacrifice fly. These were the only runs USU Eastern scored in the contest, falling 9-2. Lexi Hardman and Ainzleigh Quinn each two hits in the game.
To finish the 2026 regular season, the Eagles will travel to Snow College for a spot in the Scenic West Athletic Conference postseason tournament. The last time the two teams played, the Eagles took 3 of the 4 games.
Games are scheduled for Thursday and Friday, with doubleheaders each day. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 7.
