Softball ends regular season at Snow; earn No. 4 seed in SWAC Tournament

The Utah State Eastern softball team traveled to the Snow College Badgers for the final series of the regular season. The Eagles had already clinched their spot in the Scenic West Athletic Conference Tournament, but this series with the Badgers would determine seeding for both teams.

The Eagles opened the series with a thrilling; comeback win thanks to a Brooklyn Zajac game-winning solo home run in the top of the seventh inning. The homer gave Eastern a 5-4 win. Zajac went 2-4 in the game, while Allie Fowler struck out 9 Badgers in a complete-game performance.

Game two was another close contest, one in which the Eagles were tasked win another late-game comeback. Despite scoring two runs in the top of the seventh, the Eagles fell 4-3. Jayda Spight went 2-4 at the plate and Allie Fowler had the lone RBI in the game for Eastern.

Entering the final day of regular season play split in the series, the Eagles were unable to find a groove in the third game. Snow jumped to an early 8-0 lead after the second inning. Eastern was able to score a run in the top of the fifth inning, Brielle Sandoval singled to score the lone Eagle run. Lexi Hardman and Danica Everts each had two hits in the game.

Needing a win to split the series, the Eagles scored two runs in the top of the first inning. This, however, was the only time Eastern managed runs in the finale. Eastern fell to Snow, 6-2. Ainzleigh Quinn and Jayda Spight each tallied an RBI while Quinn went 2-3 at the plate.

With the conclusion of the regular season, Eastern has earned the No. 4 seed in the SWAC Tournament. They will face the No. 1 seed Salt Lake Community College at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 12.
