Softball splits tough road series with Southern Nevada

The Utah State Eastern softball team hit the road for the third-straight weekend, this time to the College of Southern Nevada in Henderson, Nevada.

In the opening contest of the weekend, the Eagles did their best to battle the Coyotes, but CSN held the Eagles at bay offensively. Three different Eagles mustered a hit, but they ultimately fell 4-0. Brooklyn Zajac went 2-3 on the day, and Ainzleigh Quinn and Jayda Spight recorded a hit each.

Though the game was low-scoring, the two teams combined for 24 hits in game two of the day. Tied at two at the top of the fourth inning, the Eagles scored on two singles from Madison Stephenson and Jayda Spight gave Eastern a 4-2 lead. Eastern closed the door to take the win, 4-3. Jayda Spight ended the game with two RBIs on a 3-5 day. Sadie Parsons got the win in the circle after two scoreless innings in relief.

The Eagles' bats stayed hot in the third game of the weekend. Eastern scored six runs on 10 hits, including a three-RBI day for Jayda Spight. Jordan Snarr and Madison Stephenson also recorded RBIs in the 6-2 win. Allie Fowler got the win in a five-strikeout complete game.

To finish the series, the Eagles were unable to contain the Coyotes, who scored eight runs in the first inning. The Eagles fell 11-2 in the series finale. Lexi Hardman had a team-high two hits in the contest.

The next time the Eagles take the field will be for their home opener on Tuesday, Mar. 10. They will host Western Nebraska Community College in a midweek doubleheader.
