Selah Nickel, a freshman middle blocker from Celina, Texas, brings a strong combination of athletic experience and competitive success to the USU Eastern volleyball program. She competed at a high level throughout her high school career, earning numerous honors and helping her team finish third at the State Tournament in both 2023 and 2024. In 2023, she received All-District Honorable Mention honors. During the 2024 season, she was named to the Denton Ryan All-Tournament Team, earned 4A District 9 Blocker of the Year honors and was selected to the TGCA All-State Team. She was also named Bluebell/TSWA Class 4A Honorable Mention and recorded 100 career blocks.
During the 2024 season, she recorded 103 total blocks, averaging 2.6 blocks per game, along with 60 digs and three aces. She continued her success in 2025, reaching 500 career kills and earning District 9-4A Co-Blocker of the Year and TGCA All-State honors. She was also recognized as an Academic All-District selection, highlighting her commitment both on the court and in the classroom.
She comes from a large and supportive family. Her parents, Matt and Heather Nickel, have encouraged her throughout her athletic career, and she has six siblings, along with four nieces and one nephew. Her father also has an athletic background, having played football at the University of Utah.
Outside of volleyball, she enjoys swimming, painting and spending time with her family and friends. Nickel plans to study criminal justice and chose USU Eastern because it provides her with the opportunity to commute while continuing to play the sport she loves. She is excited to continue her volleyball career as an Eagle while pursuing her academic goals.
