Kielana Gasu, a freshman libero from West Jordan, Utah, brings a strong defensive presence and a passion for volleyball to the USU Eastern program. She began playing varsity volleyball as a junior, earning an award for recording 500 serve-receives during the season. As a senior, she was named Libero of the Year and received All-State Honorable Mention honors. During her senior season, she recorded 1,119 serve-receives, 830 digs and 81 aces while passing at a 2.8 rating.
She comes from a large and supportive family. Her parents, Pule and Marcie, have raised 11 children, including five boys and six girls. Athletics have played an important role in the family, with her sister playing basketball at Salt Lake Community College, her brother currently playing volleyball at Utah Valley University and her younger sister continuing her volleyball career in high school. Her other siblings have each followed their own paths while continuing to support one another.
Outside of volleyball, she enjoys painting, listening to music, watching movies, spending time with friends and family, riding bikes, baking and creating ceramic vases. She also hopes to pursue cosmetology and eventually work with hair while attending school. Gasu chose USU Eastern because of its welcoming environment and the close-knit feel of a small school. She is excited for the opportunity to continue her volleyball career with the Eagles and grow alongside her teammates.
