The Utah State Eastern softball team continued conference play with a trip to Coeur d'Alene, Idaho for a four-game series against the North Idaho College Cardinals. The first time these two teams met, the Eagles lost three out of the four games.
The series started with a dominant performance from the Eagles. After a five-run top of the first inning, the Eagles' offense continued to dominate, taking a 12-1 lead after the third inning. Eastern cruised to an easy 15-1 victory. Six different Eagles recorded two or more RBIs in the game. Allie Fowler recorded eight strikeouts in the circle to earn the complete-game win.
The second contest of the series was the lowest scoring affair on the weekend. The Eagles took an early lead in the second inning on a Sadie Parson single. This was the only offensive action Eastern had in the game. The Eagles fell 3-1 in a close contest. Brielle Sandoval led the Eagles with a 2-3 performance at the plate.
The pitchers dominated the beginning of game three. Neither team was able to score until the fifth inning where the Eagles broke through with the first run of the game. Heading into the bottom of the sixth, the Eagles had a 4-0 lead, which they held to the end for a 4-3 win. Allie Fowler went 3-3 in the game while tossing a nine-strikeout complete game.
To end the series, the Eagles used 12 hits to score 11 runs en route to an 11-5 win over the Cardinals. A five-run third inning, propelled by an Ajla Hadzialijagic two-run home run proved to be enough for the Eagles. Hadzialijagic finished the game with a 4-5 performance and 4 RBIs.
Next for the Eagles is their final home series of the regular season. They will host the College of Southern Idaho in a four-game series scheduled for Friday and Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Friday, May 1.
