Eagles salvage series; take finale from No. 19 Bruins

As the conference schedule turned to the second half, the Utah State Eastern softball team remained at home to take on the No. 19 Salt Lake Community College Bruins. This was the second time the two teams have faced off this season.

The series began with a close contest. Despite falling behind in the early parts of the contest, the Eagles had a chance to win the game in the bottom of the seventh. Their comeback attempt, however, was spoiled and Eastern fell 6-4. Jayda Spight led the Eagles with a 2-3 day and two RBIs.

Eastern struggled to keep pace in the second game. Eastern found themselves in a hole that they were unable to get out of, falling 14-2. Brooklyn Zajac went 2-3, while Jayda Spight drove in the team's two runs on a two-run double.

Going into the seventh inning, the Eagles had a 5-4 lead. Salt Lake scored three runs, and Eastern tied the game at 7 to send the game to extra innings. Salt Lake scored another five runs, and Eastern fell 12-9 in a close contest. Brielle Sandoval, Brooklyn Wright, and Danica Everts each had two hits in the contest, and Sandoval led the team with three RBIS.

The series was another close contest, but Eastern's bats came to play. The Eagles used a four-run fifth, and a five-run sixth to defeat the Bruins, 10-8. Seven different Eagles recorded a hit in the game, including five extra base hits. Keyana Murray hit a three-run home run to give the Eagles their late lead. Murray also earned the win in the circle, striking out five hitters in 3.2 innings pitched.

The Eagles will next hit the road for a key matchup against the North Idaho College Cardinals. Games will take place in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho on Friday and Saturday.
