The Utah State Eastern softball team continued conference play with a trip to face the College of Southern Idaho Golden Eagles. This was the first meeting this season for the two teams.
The two teams battled in a close contest to start the series. A Brooklyn Zajac single scored a run for the Eagles, but it was not enough as Eastern fell 4-1 in the opener. Zajac had the team's lone RBI, and Brielle Sandoval gave the Eagles a multi-hit performance.
In the second game of the doubleheader, the Eagles quickly found themselves down to Southern Idaho. The Eagles were able to breakthrough for four runs in the fourth inning, but they eventually fell 13-5. Allie Fowler, Brooklyn Wright, and Brooklyn Zajac each had an RBI in the game.
The bats struggled in the third game of the series. Jayda Spight had the lone hit in the game as the Eagles had just two runners on base. CSI defeated the Eagles 6-0 to clinch the series.
The Eagles showed life in the top of the second inning, scoring to take an early lead. After that, the Eagles could not swing momentum back their way. The Eagles fell 10-2 to end the series. Jayda Spight and Brooklyn Wright each had an RBI in the contest.
The Eagles will return home next weekend to face in-state rival Snow College. Games will be on Friday and Saturday, starting at 1:00 p.m. on Friday.
