The Utah State Eastern baseball team returned home for a four-game series against No. 20 Salt Lake Community College. This was the first meeting for the two teams this season.
The series started with a three-run first inning for the Eagles. Throughout the rest of the contest, the Eagles were only able to score again in the fifth inning on a Reid Deede home run. The Eagles fell 15-4 to the Bruins. Reid Deede went 3-3 in the contest with a homer and a triple.
The second game of the series was like that of the first. Eastern was unable to muster momentum and fell 15-2. Makaio Swensen went 2-3 with a 2-run double. Jake Lindsay also went 3-3 in the game.
In need of a quick bounce back, the Eagles and Bruins played game three as a second part of a doubleheader. The Bruins scored three runs in the second inning, but the Eagles responded with five runs, including a grand slam from Gaige Woods. The Eagles had a 6-3 lead going into the top of the seventh, where SLCC took a 7-6 lead. A Truman Duryea walk-off three-run home run gave Eastern the 11-8 win.
The series finale was a close contest, but a big three-run inning gave Eastern just enough to earn the 8-6 win, splitting the series with the No. 20 Bruins. Jake Lindsay had three RBIs in the game, and Truman Duryea had eight strikeouts on the mound to lead the Eagles.
After the series, the Eagles sit at 21-19, and 2-6 in conference play. Next week, the Eagles will stay home to face the Colorado Northwestern Community College Spartans. Games will take place over Thursday-Saturday, beginning at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
