USU Eastern Athletics

Jessie Whinwray, a sophomore guard from Gold Coast, Australia, brings an impressive international background and competitive experience to the USU Eastern basketball program. She played her club basketball with the North Gold Coast Seahawks, averaging 17 points, six assists and three rebounds per game during her final U18 season. Her teams competed at the State Championships four times during her U16 and U18 seasons. She was also selected for the Queensland State Development Program and later represented the North Gold Coast Seahawks in the NBL1. Her international experience includes representing New Zealand at the FIBA Oceania Cup in Samoa.

Originally from New Zealand, Whinwray and her family have called the Gold Coast home for the past 11 years. She has two sisters, Aysia and Keira. Aysia played football at the national level and is now studying to become a doctor, while Keira is still exploring her future plans. Whinwray comes from a close family and credits them with being an important part of her journey. Her family also includes Rupert, a Newfoundland who loves nothing more than swimming.

Outside of basketball, Whinwray enjoys being outdoors, especially going to the beach and hiking. She also enjoys going out to dinner with friends, spending time with family and watching movies. She is currently studying general studies and is interested in pursuing journalism and communications. Whinwray chose USU Eastern because she wanted the opportunity to continue developing academically while growing as a basketball player and as a person. She looks forward to challenging herself, meeting new people and making the most of her college experience while working toward her future goals.
