The No. 14 Utah State Eastern men's soccer team dominated Truckee Meadows Community College on Saturday, earning a 10-0 victory via the mercy rule. Eight different Eagles found the back of the net in the offensive outburst.
Eastern opened the scoring in the 11th minute when Theo Luis found the back of the net off an assist from Oliver Palafox. The goal marked Luis's first of the season. Noah Heil added another goal three minutes later, giving Eastern a 2-0 lead.
Leandro Robles then capitalized on an assist from Leandro Suarez Soruco in the 18th minute to make it 3-0. Suarez Soruco added a goal of his own later in the half as Eastern took a 4-0 advantage into the break.
The Eagles were efficient in the opening half, scoring four goals on nine shots. Eastern limited Truckee Meadows to just three shots, while goalkeeper Xavier Peregrina recorded a save to preserve the clean sheet.
The Eagles quickly extended their lead after halftime, scoring three goals in a five-minute span. Heil scored his second goal of the match, followed by goals from Tanner Kunz and Luis Velasco, giving Eastern a 7-0 lead in the 57th minute.
Ishmail Shehata added two goals later in the half, scoring in the 67th and 70th minutes. Mateo Schachtschabel also found the back of the net in the 69th minute for his first goal of the season as Eastern completed the 10-0 victory.
Eastern added 10 more shots in the second half and completely shut down the Lizards offensively, holding Truckee Meadows without a shot after halftime.
The No. 14 Eagles will now hit the road for a ranked matchup with No. 13 North Idaho College in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24.
