The Utah State Eastern baseball team welcomed the Okotoks Dawgs Academy for a mid-week matchup. The doubleheader was the final non-conference opportunity for the Eagles.
In a hard-fought battle to start the doubleheader, the Eagles attempted a comeback in the late innings of the game. Down two runs in the seventh inning, the Eagles had the tying run on second base. Unfortunately, Eastern was unable to get the job done and fell to the Dawgs, 6-4. Abraham Atencio homered in the game, and Tyce Abbott collected two hits.
The Eagles rebounded in the second game, defeating the Dawgs, 9-2, after controlling the game early. Cam Ford homered in the contest, as the Eagles recorded ten hits. Five Eagles pitched in the game and combined for ten strikeouts.
Next for Eastern is their conference opener against the College of Southern Idaho Golden Eagles. Eastern will travel to Twin Falls, Idaho, to play on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. The first game of the series will be played on Thursday, Mar. 19, at 4:00 p.m.
