Biography

Shay Johnson, a 5'0" Utility player from West Valley City, Utah, is a red shirt freshman on the USU Eastern softball team.

Shay played high school softball at Juan Diego Catholic High School, where she excelled as a shortstop and lead-off hitter. She was chosen as team captain during her junior and senior years and received the MVP Award three years in a row. Shay earned several other awards for hitting and fielding, was selected as 1st Team All-Region for three consecutive years, and received All-State Honorable Mention honors in both her junior and senior years. In addition to her high school achievements, Shay has played club softball since she was 10 years old, with her most recent team being USA Athletics Embrey/Mortensen. With that team, she competed in and won some of the best tournaments in the country, including Top Gun, IDT, Triple Crown, and PGF.

Shay is the daughter of Sherrie and Kirk Johnson and has three older siblings, all with their own families. A unique aspect of Shay's family is that she was adopted, and her sister closest in age was a foster child taken in by her parents until she turned 18, making her essentially adopted as well.

Shay has always been interested in the medical field, which led her to pursue a degree in Nursing with the goal of becoming a Pediatric nurse. She also enjoys Phlebotomy. In her free time, Shay loves working out, whether it be weight lifting or other forms of exercise. She also enjoys doing hair and nails, which she considers herself quite skilled at. Additionally, she loves spending time outdoors and going on adventures with friends and family. Shay chose USU Eastern because it is close to home, offers a good and affordable education, and allows her to continue playing the sport she loves.
