Zak Nelson is from Salem, Utah, and attended Salem Hills High School. He played both baseball and basketball in high school, lettering four times in basketball and three times in baseball. All three years he played baseball, his team reached the state tournament semifinals. Zak earned Academic All-State honors with a 4.0 GPA throughout high school. He was named Junior Player of the Year as a junior and received Male MVP and the Pursuing Victory with Honor awards for both baseball and basketball during his senior year.
Zak is the son of Angela and Justin Nelson. He has two brothers, one aged 11 and the other, Tyler, aged 22. Last year, Zak and Tyler played together on the USU Eastern baseball team, marking the first time they had ever been teammates.
Zak is currently studying Information Systems in the Huntsman School of Business and has already completed his associate's degree. He enjoys a variety of hobbies, including fishing, golf, basketball, disc golf, board games, Legos, video games, and spending time outdoors.
