The No. 14 Utah State Eastern men's soccer team returned home Saturday and earned a 1-0 victory over the College of Southern Idaho Golden Eagles in a defensive Scenic West Athletic Conference battle.
Eastern's defense set the tone early, holding Southern Idaho without a shot in the first half. The Eagles recorded three shots of their own, but none found the target as the two teams entered halftime tied 0-0.
The defensive battle continued into the second half, with Eastern limiting CSI to just one shot after the break. The Eagles finally broke through in the 56th minute when Noah Heil scored his third goal of the season to give Eastern a 1-0 lead.
Eastern's defense held the lead for the remainder of the match, securing the shutout and the 1-0 victory over Southern Idaho.
The win moved Eastern to 4-2-2 overall and 2-1-1 in conference play. The Eagles currently sit fourth in the Scenic West Athletic Conference standings.
The No. 14 Eagles will return to action Saturday, Sept. 19, when they host Truckee Meadows Community College at 1:30 p.m. at Castleview Hospital Soccer Field. The Lizards enter the matchup 1-5 overall and 0-2 in conference play.
