The No. 20 Utah State Eastern women's soccer team returned home Thursday and earned a 2-0 victory over the College of Southern Idaho, handing the Golden Eagles their first loss of the season.
Eastern came out with control from kickoff, recording 11 shots in the first half. The Eagles broke through in the 17th minute when Brookley Rasmussen converted a penalty kick for her fourth goal of the season.
The Eagles continued to pressure Southern Idaho throughout the opening half, and Rasmussen struck again just before halftime to give Eastern a 2-0 advantage. The goal marked Rasmussen's second of the match and fifth of the season.
Eastern continued to control possession in the second half, limiting Southern Idaho to just three shots. Neither team found the back of the net after halftime as the Eagles held on for the 2-0 victory.
The win moved Eastern to 4-4 overall and 2-2 in Scenic West Athletic Conference play. The No. 20 Eagles currently sit fifth in the conference standings.
Eastern will remain home for its next match when it hosts Truckee Meadows Community College at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 19.
