The No. 14 Utah State Eastern men's soccer team fell 4-1 to No. 4 Salt Lake Community College in a Scenic West Athletic Conference road match Thursday. The loss marked the beginning of the second half of conference play for the Eagles.
Eastern opened the scoring in the 40th minute when Ishmail Shehata found the back of the net off an assist from Zion Amado. The goal marked Shehata's first of the season and gave the Eagles a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.
The Bruins quickly responded after the break, scoring twice in an eight-minute span to take a 2-1 lead. Eastern was unable to generate an offensive response as SLCC added two more goals in the second half to complete the 4-1 comeback victory.
The Bruins finished with a 14-5 advantage in shots. Eastern's offense managed just five shots and did not force a save from the SLCC goalkeeper.
The loss moved Eastern to 6-4-2 overall and 4-3-1 in conference play. The Eagles currently sit fifth in the SWAC standings, one spot behind their next opponent, the College of Southern Idaho.
Eastern will travel to face the Golden Eagles on Thursday, Oct. 8, at 3:30 p.m.
