The Utah State Eastern women's volleyball team swept Truckee Meadows Community College in both matches of a weekend series in Reno, Nevada, earning two straight-set victories to strengthen its position in the Scenic West Athletic Conference standings.
The Eagles entered the weekend tied for first place in the conference and opened the series Friday with a dominant performance. Eastern won the first set 25-11 before taking the second 25-13. The Eagles completed the sweep with a 25-10 victory in the third set.
Sela Christiansen led Eastern with eight kills, while Alivia Manning recorded six blocks in the victory.
Eastern returned to the court Saturday and continued its strong play, earning another straight-set win over the Lizards. The Eagles took the opening set 25-14, followed with a 25-16 victory in the second and closed out the match with a 25-12 win in the third set.
Christiansen led the Eagles with 10 kills in their fourth consecutive victory. Manning added seven blocks to cap a productive weekend for Eastern.
The Eagles will return to the Bunnell-Dmitrich Athletic Center for a pivotal two-match series against No. 5 Salt Lake Community College. Both teams enter the weekend with 8-2 conference records, tied with the College of Southern Idaho for first place in the SWAC standings.
A weekend sweep would give Eastern a chance to claim a share of the regular-season conference championship, depending on the results of CSI's matches.
Friday's match is scheduled for 6:00 p.m., with Saturday's rematch set for 12:00 pm. The Eagles will also honor their sophomores on Saturday.
