Eagles stay undefeated in SWAC; upset No. 9 CSI

The Utah State Eastern women's basketball team stopped in Twin Falls, Idaho, for a matchup with the No. 9 College of Southern Idaho Golden Eagles. The game was between the two teams tied atop the Scenic West Athletic Conference standings, both at 4-0.

Eastern started the game from behind, trailing as many as seven points early in the first quarter. After CSI took a 15-8 lead, the Eagles closed the half with an 11-4 run to tie the game at 19 at the end of the first quarter.

The two teams traded baskets in the second quarter, and Eastern led by as many as four points in the quarter. A couple of late baskets in the quarter gave the Eagles a 40-38 lead at the break. Marlee Pieper led the Eagles with 14 points at the half.

The third quarter was similar to the second, as both teams continued to trade baskets. The Eagles were outscored by one point in the quarter as they took a 59-58 lead into the final period.

The Eagles started the fourth quarter with a 7-2 run to extend their lead to six points. Despite attempts to make a comeback, the Eagles closed out the game to upset the No. 9 Golden Eagles, 77-71.

Marlee Pieper led the Eagles with 19 points. Skylie Barker (15), Alyssa Whittaker (15), and Addasyn Scrivner (10) each finished with double figures.

After the win, the Eagles (14-6, 50) sit alone at the top of the Scenic West Athletic Conference standings. They will return home next week to take on the Snow College Badgers. Tip-off is scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 22, at 5:00 p.m.
