Softball Splits With Eastern Arizona 1-1

Game 1: 9-1 win

  • In game one, Utah State Eastern, knocked in five runs in the second inning. The rally was lead by singles from freshman Grace Jenkins and sophomore Regan Bossow and doubles by freshman Marisa Bowman and Morgan Tanner. The Eagles opened up the game when Bossow double on a 0-1 count, scoring two runs. Emma Marchant took the win, lasting five innings, allowing six hits and one run while striking out seven and walking zero. Utah State Eastern scattered nine hits in the game. Bossow and Bowman both had three hits to lead the lady eagles. The Eagles had 29 plate appearances with 26 at bats ending with a team average for the game of .346

Highlights

Game 2: 2-12 loss

  • Sophomore Nyah DeRyke started the game for Utah State Eastern, allowing four hits and eight runs over two-thirds of an inning, striking out one and walking one. Fresham Malorie Luck threw three and a third innings in relief. Freshman Morgan Tanner led the Eagles with two hits in two at bats. The Eagles had 22 plate appearances and 19 at bats. Utah State Eastern had a team average of .211 for game two. 

Highlights

"Once again our bats started off hot but struggled to keep it going throughout the second game. We are doing good at utilizing a lot of our pitchers and our defense needs to be better at having their bats," said head coach Shelby Shurtliff. 

The Eagles will take the field again Thursday, February 4 in Yuma against Central Arizona at 6 p.m.
