Shay played high school softball at Juan Diego Catholic High School playing short stop and was a lead off hitter. She was chosen as team captain her junior and senior year, and received the MVP Award 3 years in a row along with several other awards for hitting and fielding.  Shay was chosen as 1st Team All-Region and All-State Honorable Mention and has played club softball since she was 10 years old with her most recent team, USA Athletics Embrey/Mortensen. On that team, she won several huge games competing and winning some of the best tournaments in the country such as Top Gun, IDT, Triple Crown, and PGF.

Shay's parents are Sherrie and Kirk Johnson and she has 3 siblings (2 sisters and a brother) who are all much older than her with their own spouses and children. One unique thing about her family is that Shay was adopted and her sister closest in age to her was a foster child by her parents until she turned 18 which pretty much makes her adopted.

Shay always been interested in the medical field so it always made sense to be a nurse, doctor, or surgeon. She has chosen to go into Nursing to become a Pediatric nurse. Along with this something she enjoys doing is Phlebotomy.  She loves working out whether it be weight lifting or some other form of exercise. Shay also loves doing hair and considers herself pretty darn good at it.  She loves being outdoors and going on adventures with friends and family and Shay chose USUE because it is close to home and a good and affordable school to receive an education while also being able to play the sport she loves.
