The Utah State Eastern women's volleyball team continued its preseason campaign with the CSI Starr Corporation Invite hosted by the College of Southern Idaho. The Eagles were given the task of facing Western Nebraska Community College, Treasure Valley Community College, and Central Wyoming College.
The Eagles opened the weekend with a rematch against the Western Nebraska Cougars. The two teams faced off for the first time just a week earlier, a matchup the Cougars won 3-2. Eastern started the match falling in the first set, 25-21. Looking to bounce back, the Eagles dominated the next three sets, 25-20, 25-20 and 25-21, to win the match 3-1 over the Cougars. Sela Christiansen led the Eagles with 10 kills in the match.
Eastern continued the weekend with a match against the Treasure Valley Community College Chukars. The was the first time these two teams have ever faced each other, and it was a great match for the Eagles. The Eagles left no doubt in the first set, winning 25-12. The second set was the closest of the contest with Eastern winning 25-20. Looking for a sweep, the Eagles controlled the final set, 25-16, en route to the 3-0 sweep over the Chukars. Christiansen continued her dominant weekend, recording another 11 kills in the match.
To close out the tournament, the Eagles faced the Central Wyoming College Rustlers. Eastern opened the match with a dominant 25-17 win in the first set. Despite losing a commanding lead in the second set, the Eagles held on to take the set, 25-20. To complete the sweep, the Eagles dominated the third set, 25-16, finishing the 3-0 sweep of Central Wyoming. For the third match of the weekend, Christiansen led the Eagles with 13 kills in the contest.
Eastern will next participate in the Bruin Bash, hosted by Salt Lake Community College. The Eagles will play their final non-conference matches of the regular season, taking on Miami Dade College, Odessa College, Trinity Valley Community College, and Eastern Wyoming College.
