No. 17 Women’s Soccer falls to Golden Eagles in defensive battle

The No. 17 Utah State Eastern women's soccer team fell 1-0 to the College of Southern Idaho on the road Thursday, suffering its first loss to the Golden Eagles this season.

The matchup in Twin Falls, Idaho, marked the second meeting between the teams. Eastern won the first contest 2-0, but the rematch began as a defensive battle.

The teams combined for just seven shots in the first half, with Eastern recording three and Southern Idaho adding four. Eagles goalkeeper Haygen Haycock made a save to help keep the match scoreless heading into halftime.

Southern Idaho broke through shortly after the start of the second half, converting a penalty kick to take a 1-0 lead.

Eastern responded with increased offensive pressure, recording 15 shots in the second half while searching for an equalizer. However, the Eagles were unable to find the back of the net and fell 1-0.

The loss moved Eastern to 6-5-2 overall and 4-3-2 in Scenic West Athletic Conference play. The Eagles currently sit tied for fourth in the conference standings.

Eastern will look to bounce back Saturday when it faces Truckee Meadows Community College in Reno, Nevada. Kickoff is scheduled for 11 a.m. Oct. 10.
