Eagles fall in season finale; enter SWAC tournament as No. 3 seed

The Utah State Eastern women's volleyball team closed out its regular season with two losses to No. 4 Salt Lake Community College, finishing the weekend as the No. 3 seed in the Scenic West Athletic Conference postseason tournament.

The Eagles entered the weekend having already secured a postseason berth, but their final tournament seeding remained undecided. Eastern hosted the Bruins in a two-match series between conference contenders at the Bunnell-Dmitrich Athletic Center.

Friday's match featured a competitive opening set, with Salt Lake edging Eastern 25-23. The Bruins carried that momentum into the second set, overcoming an early Eagles deficit to claim a 25-21 victory.

Facing a 2-0 deficit, Eastern responded in the third set by jumping out to an early 5-0 lead. The Bruins fought back, but the Eagles finished strong to take the set 27-25 and extend the match. Salt Lake regained control in the fourth set, winning 25-14 to secure the 3-1 match victory.

Kinsey Parsons led Eastern with 10 kills, while Selah Nickel recorded six blocks.

The teams returned to the court Saturday for their second matchup. Eastern opened with a 5-2 advantage, but the Bruins battled back to take the opening set 27-25. The second set remained close throughout, with Salt Lake again coming out on top, 25-23.

The Bruins took control in the third set, using a 10-0 run to pull away and secure a 25-12 victory. The win completed a 3-0 sweep of the Eagles in Saturday's match.

Sela Christiansen and Madelin Newbold led Eastern with 10 kills apiece.

Despite the weekend results, the Eagles secured the No. 3 seed in the Scenic West postseason tournament. Eastern's opponent has not been announced and will be released at a later time.
