Men’s Soccer finishes conference weekend with a dominant win

The Utah State Eastern Eagles welcomed two Scenic West opponents to Price for their first home conference matches of the season. The Eagles hosted the Salt Lake Community College Bruins and the Colorado Northwestern Community College Spartans at Castleview Hospital Soccer Field.

On Thursday, Eastern faced off against the Bruins in a match that ended in a 0-0 draw. The Eagles out shot the Bruins 9-8, but both teams' incredible defensive play prevented any attempts from hitting the back of the net.

Goalkeeper Fabian Serrato Ruiz recorded two saves to keep the Bruins scoreless. Owen Gaisford had two shots on goal that the Bruin goalkeeper saved.

Saturday, the Eagles faced the Spartans in another conference match. USU Eastern dominated, 4-2, to earn their first conference win of the season.

Oliver Palafox quickly scored Eastern's first goal of the match, taking advantage of a 3rd minute opportunity. The goal was then followed by a Spartan goal, just 30 seconds later, tying the match at 1-1.

Matheo Ledesma scored in the 9th minute to give the Eagles a 2-1 lead. The Spartans would equalize the match in the 20th minute, which would take the match into halftime tied 2-2.

Things would open slowly in the second half, but Ledesma's second goal of the night, in the 61st minute, gave Eastern a 3-2 lead. Ledesma would complete a hat-trick in the 85th minute, with his 3rd goal of the day. The goal solidified the Eagles' 4-2 win over the Spartans.

The Eagles will next take on the North Idaho Cardinals in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Kick-off is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 18.
