In a hard-fought Scenic West Athletic Conference opener, USU Eastern men's soccer team showcased their grit against Snow College. Although the final score read 3-1 in favor of Snow College, USU Eastern put up a valiant effort and demonstrated significant improvement as the match progressed.
The Eagles started the game with strong energy, matching Snow College shot for shot. Despite an early goal from Snow's Luis Pantoja in the 8th minute, the Eagles remained composed as Eastern's defense, led by Thiago Moreira in goal, thwarted several close attacks. Moreira recorded three crucial saves in the first half, keeping the game within reach.
USU Eastern's attacking efforts increased after halftime, and they were rewarded when midfielder Brennen Lamont found the back of the net in the 49th minute. His solo effort electrified the team and the home crowd, tying the game 1-1.
Throughout the second half, the Eagles continued to press, with 10 shots compared to Snow's 8. Forward Matheo Ledesma led the charge with five shots, while both Boston Peterson and Dax Watts provided key opportunities from the wings. However, Snow regained the lead in the 56th minute, and despite USU Eastern's relentless pressure, they were unable to score again. Snow added a third goal in the 79th minute to seal the match.
Despite the result, the Eagles showed their potential, out-shooting Snow in the second half and earning six corner kicks to Snow's three.
