WBB RECAP: Eagles Open 2019 With Win Over CNCC

PRICE – After two months away from home, the Eagles opened their 2019 conference schedule with a 88-60 home win over the Colorado Northwest Spartans on Saturday.

The Eagles opened up the game in dominating fashion with a 12-0 run.

"Everyone was excited to finally play conference play and I think we have a really good chance this year especially with us hosting the tournament," said USU Eastern sophomore Alyssa Crumley.

In the second quarter the Eagles put their foot on the gas against the Spartans by outscoring them 26-6.

Every player that was dressed for Saturday's game earned minutes and all but one scored for the Eagles.

"It was positive all the way around and they shared the ball well tonight. When we share the ball well, it is hard to stop us," said USU Eastern Head Coach Chelsey Warburton.

As a team the Eagles shot 46.7 % from the field and 29.2% from behind the three-point line.

"I think we shot well as a team because we executed and found the open person," said Warburton.

In the second half USU Eastern continued to hold momentum despite being outscored in the fourth quarter 24-21.

Leading the Eagles in scoring against the Spartans was freshman guard Emmery Wagstaff who finished with 17 points along with six rebounds.

Freshmen Noah Harris and Lamija Coric added a combined 15 points and eight rebounds off the bench on Saturday.

Each freshman that played on Saturday made an impact for the Eagles and are ready to contribute in the conference portion of the season says Crumley.

"I think they all have transitioned great into college ball and I don't think I can consider them freshman anymore," said Crumley.

For Crumley, she finished with 14 points with a team-high nine rebounds and three assists.

"She is very hard to stop inside and outside. Tonight she had a complete game for us," said Warburton.

With Saturday's win the Eagles' overall record goes to 13-3.

They will host a ranked College of Southern Nevada squad next Saturday inside the BDAC at 3 p.m.

Next Saturday's game can be seen live on the Scenic West Digital Network and the NJCAA TV app.
