PRICE – Utah State Eastern softball were swept by the College of Southern Idaho on Friday and Saturday in a four-game series in Twin Falls.

The Eagles lost 14-3 and 8-0 during Friday's doubleheader while losing 9-7 and 8-0 in Saturday's doubleheader.

"CSI is a great team they came out swinging the bat hard and didn't stop throughout the whole series," said USU Eastern Head Coach Brittani Richins.

For the Eagles at the plate, freshman McKenna Gubanich led the Eagles with four hits in the series.

Sophomore Cassidy Howe and freshman Avery Blackhurst each had three hits and three RBIs against CSI.

Even though her team was swept, Coach Richins said that she saw progress in her team over the weekend.

"When it comes to the team and how the performed I believe that the second day they learned how to be better team players and a support for there teammates," said Richins.

Defensively the Eagles have saw major improvement in fielding and not letting errors dictate the series against CSI.

The Eagles only had four errors in the four-game series which is a season-low during their conference schedule.

"The girls have improved errors wise because they are not going through the motions anymore.  We have also implied some different drills in practice that is helping them with there foot work and glove work," said Richins.

USU Eastern now have a 11-15 overall record with a 6-10 conference record.

Their conference record positions them into a tie for fourth place in the Scenic West Athletic Conference standings.

The Eagles will travel to Ephraim this upcoming weekend with an important four-game series with Snow College starting on Friday.

Last season the Eagles went 3-6 against Snow including a loss in the Region XVIII tournament that eliminated them from the posteason.
