PRICE, UTAH – The Utah State Eastern women's soccer team lost 2-1 in double overtime Tuesday to the Western Wyoming Mustangs.

The opening game of the regular season for USU Eastern ended with a last second goal by the Mustangs.

Western Wyoming's Madisyn Cantrell scored the game winning goal in the second overtime period with three seconds left in the period.

In the first half of the game, USU Eastern's goalie Shyann Jones deflected a shot by the Mustangs which ended up going to Western Wyoming's Maylee Thompson who scored off the deflection.

Jones finished the match with seven saves and two goals allowed.

USU Eastern tied the game in the second half with a goal by Cami Gleason with an assist from Morgan Hall.

Leading the team with shots against Western Wyoming was Amanda Manwill who finished the game with the three.

USU Eastern head coach Ammon Bennett points to mistakes made by his team as the big factor to the outcome of the game.

"We made to many mistakes to keep us in the game. We have a good but we just are not playing great soccer right now," said Bennett.

Despite having possession of the ball most of the game and ending the game with a loss the team is looking forward to improving for their next game according to freshman McKenna Wiscombe.

"Its early in the season, we are still trying to figure things out but once we get the hang of that we will be able to play to our full potential," said Wiscombe.

This weekend the team will travel to Grand Junction, Colorado to take on Colorado Mesa University Club. They will also play a scrimmage against Colorado Mesa's varsity team.
