WBB: Eagles Come Up Short Against the Bruins

PRICE, Utah – The Utah State Eastern women's team lost to the Salt Lake Community College Bruins 49-36 Thursday night in Taylorsville.

The Bruins jumped out to a big 15-2 lead to begin the game with the Eagles not being able to get a shot to go in. The Eagles finished the first quarter with 7-4 run including a deep three made by freshman forward Kaitlin Tuolono at the buzzer.

With the Bruins leading 25-10 with 6:21 left in the half, a layup by sophomore forward Mateah Tuckett sparked a 11-2 Eagle run to finish the half.

In the second quarter the Eagles got help from their bench with sophomore Bryndie Ballam scoring four points and freshman Sara Morley scoring 3 points.

The game got very close in the third quarter with the Eagles cutting the lead down to two points with 2:10 to go in the period.The Bruins started to widen their lead as they made three shots from three point range.

The Eagles couldn't get a shot to go in the fourth quarter, only making one shot and two free throws.

After halftime the Eagles struggled on the floor shooting 13.6% from the field and going 0-7 from three point range.

Toluono was the leading scorer for the Eagles playing in front of her hometown crowd. She finished the game with 12 points and 12 rebounds with a block and a steal.

The Eagles finished the game shooting 80.2% from the free throw line by making 21 of 26 free throws. 

Morley and Ballam both finished the game with 7 points and 5 rebounds in important minutes.

The Eagles will head to Rangely on Saturday to take on the Spartans of Colorado Northwest at 3 p.m. Each team has won a game in the season series with two more games to be played.
