Women's Hoops Gets First Conference Win

Box Score PRICE, Utah –After a home loss on Thursday, the Utah State Eastern women's basketball team defeated Colorado Northwest Community College Saturday night 65-57 to secure their fist conference win of the season.

The Eagles came out in the first quarter with a great start with a 19-12 lead at the end of the first quarter. Throughout most of the game however the Eagles would build a lead on CNCC but somehow allow the Spartans to make the game closer with scoring runs.

Head Coach Chelsey Warburton was happy that her team made great plays in the right moments to keep their lead and not lose the game.

"We made defensive stops in key situations which helped us maintain the lead, but the offensive end is what sealed the deal," said Warburton.

Warburton says a key moment in the game that helped the Eagles offense was the three point shot made by freshman Harlee Willoughby. Despite playing with a injured hand, Willoughby came off the bench to step up when Warburton's team needed it the most.

Leading the way for the Eagles was freshman guard Madison Loftus who finished the game with an outstanding 24 points and 4 rebounds. Loftus has averaged 21.7 points per game in her last four games for the Eagles.

Sophomore Maile Richardson finished the game with a team-high nine rebounds along with five points. Sophomore Ashlyn Coleman had another impressive night in the post for the Eagles with grabbing seven rebounds and having two blocks on the defensive end.

Coming off the bench freshman Sara Morley scored seven points and grabbed six rebounds in 19 minutes of action.

With the winning their tenth game of the season, the Eagles now eclipsed their 2016 wins total which they only won nine games by the end of the season.

"I am very happy with the direction the program is headed.  I have a great assistant who is key in this process and the players are the ones who show up and make it all happen on game day.  It's a great group and environment this year and I am looking forward to the second half of season," said Warburton.

The Eagles will have a tough week this week as they travel up north to take on the College of Southern Idaho on Thursday. Then on Saturday the Eagles will drive down to battle Snow College.
