WBB: Eagles Fall to CNCC in Rangely

PRICE, Utah – The Utah State Eastern women's basketball team picked up their third straight road loss Thursday after losing to the Colorado Northwest Spartans 85-72.

Earlier this season the Eagles defeated the Spartans to pick up their first conference win. Since then the Eagles have loss four straight with all of those losses happening on the road.

The start of the game was tough for the Eagles with the Spartans scoring seven straight points. The Spartans led 9-2 within the first two and half minutes of the game.

Then the Eagles responded with 8-0 run to take a 10-9 lead with 4 minutes left in the first quarter thanks to two important three point baskets made by sophomore Mateah Tuckett.

In the second quarter the Eagles only shot 29.4% from the field and had four turnovers to put them behind at halftime 35-29.

Colorado Northwest started the third quarter strong with two three point shots made in the first couple minutes to extend their lead to 10 with 6:44 left in the period.

After a timeout, the Eagles went on a 8-2 run in two minutes to cut the Spartans lead to 45-41. The Eagles outscored the Spartans in the third quarter 21-18 but headed into the final period being down three.

In the fourth quarter the Spartans shot 52 percent from the field and made 75% of their three point shots to outscore the Eagles 32-22.

The leading scorer for the Eagles was Tuckett who came off the bench and scored a season-high 18 points and picked up six rebounds as well.

Freshman guard Madison Loftus scored 17 points and freshman guard Lauren O'Connell had 12 points for the Eagles.

Now the Eagles have a week until they host Snow College next Thursday. The Eagles lost their first match against Snow 67-48 last Saturday in Ephraim.
