PRICE, Utah – The Utah State Eastern men's soccer team won their home opener this past weekend against Sheridan College.

They defeated Sheridan 2-0 on Friday and also played another non-conference match against Northwest College on Saturday where they lost the match 2-1.

Against Sheridan, freshman center Tristan Booth scored both goals in the second half for the Eagles. He scored his first goal off his chest after a Kelshall Alexander, Jr. throw in.

In the 78 minute mark, Booth scored again after freshman Fabio Massaro crossed the ball into play. Freshman goal keeper Austin Munoz was in net for the whole match and had two saves.

The Eagles had to play their games this past weekend at Carbon High School due to weather and field conditions. Despite playing a smaller field and playing on a wet field the Eagles pulled through to get the victory.

On Saturday the Eagles lost a close match against Northwest College, 2-1. 

They lost to a very tough and challenging Northwest team who really disrupted the Eagles. Northwest scored early in the first half with two goals in a span of 5 minutes. 

Sophomore goal keeper Spencer Brown was in goal for the entire match and had two saves. Brown came up big for the Eagles when he denied Northwest on a penalty kick.

Toward the end of the first half, Omar Suarez scored the lone goal for Utah State Eastern with an assist by sophomore Ian Thompson.

Although the Eagles were shut out in the second half, head coach Ammon Bennett remains optimistic with his squad.

"The men's team played very well, just missed chances to score. We just really have to find the back of the net when we have that many opportunities. We had multiple opportunities inside the 18 and just were not able to put it away, " said Bennett.

This weekend the Eagles will host Snow College in the first ever meeting between the two teams at home on Friday at 3 p.m. They will play Snow again on Saturday afternoon at the conclusion of the women's match against Snow.
