Women's Basketball Defeats Las Vegas All-Stars

Box Score LAS VEGAS – After losing their first game of the CSN Tournament, the women's basketball team responded with a 89-85 victory over the Las Vegas All-Stars Wednesday morning.

Yesterday the Eagles shot only 8.3 % in the opening period against Hutchinson. Today was a different story for the Eagles, they shot 33.3% in the first quarter and then in the second quarter they shot 57.1 % from the field.

Sophomore Ashlyn Coleman said that the team came in with more confidence than the previous game which helped the Eagles lead for almost the whole game.

"I think today we came in with a lot of more confidence in our shooting and our defense as well. I felt like we were more ready to play," said Coleman

Coleman came off the bench for the Eagles and scored 13 points and grabbed 9 rebounds with 3 assists. Sophomore Bryndie Ballam also had a huge game off the bench with 12 points and 8 rebounds.

The Eagles also an improvement from the free throw line this morning against the All-Stars, they shot 86.4% from the free throw line on 22 attempts.

In the second half the Eagles let their lead slip a little bit by allowing their opponent to get within 3 points. Freshman Madison Loftus said that the team thinks the situation will help their team prepare for conference games next month.

"I think we need to be more mentally tough because we are going to have lapses and they will go on runs but we need to make sure to limit those and do the best we can," said Loftus.

Leading the Eagles in scoring was Loftus who scored 27 and grabbed 7 rebounds with a team-high 6 assists. She also made five shots from behind the three point line and had five steals.

Sophomore Maile Richardson had another impressive game for the Eagles with 9 points and 8 rebounds with 2 bocks.

Tomorrow the Eagles will take on the Southern Utah All-Stars at 5 p.m. at the Doolittle Community Center at 5 p.m. This will be their final non-conference game of the season before moving to conference play next weekend.

Although the Eagles will play another All-Star team, the Eagles will not be taking the game lightly.

"I think we are going to come out really hard tomorrow, I think that is important especially against these All-Star teams. It is important to just come out hard and play the type of game we play rather than their team," said Coleman.
