Scott Madsen

In August of 2019 Scott Madsen was named as the Director of Athletics at Utah State University Eastern Athletics. Scott moved into this new position after serving as the interim Director of Athletics and the Men’s baseball coach since November of 2018. Prior to serving in the Director role, Scott was serving as the Assistant Athletic Director over development and Baseball Coach for the 2017-18 academic years. He became the head baseball coach after serving in the pitching coach role for 4 years. He served as the head coach for 18 full seasons before becoming an administrator full time. During this time he saw many student—athletes move on to four year programs and a few to the professional ranks.

With Madsen in the leadership role, the USU Eastern Athletic department has seen the women’s basketball win the co-league championship for the first time ever and finishing with a 24 win season also a new school record. Along with this the women’s volleyball team has seen their best finish as well finishing second in the league with a 26-8 record. The volleyball team was ranked as high as 12th nationally for the first time in school history. The USU Eastern cheer squad brought home a national title as well and the dance team brought a 2nd place finish nationally. Prior to being shut down with the COVID-19 pandemic, the athletic department held an 89-57-5 record through 151 games. 5 of the 7 teams finished their season at the point of being shut down.

USU Eastern has seen many different changes under the leadership of Scott Madsen. There has been new bleachers put in the gymnasium, upgrades to both the men’s and women’s locker rooms in the Bunnell-Dmitrich Athletic Center. A new athletic team weight training room has been created for all sports to utilize. New equipment has been brought into the public facilities in the BDAC. Every head coach in the USU Eastern Athletic department has been placed in a full time role with the University.

Madsen played baseball for two years at College of Eastern Utah before starting his career as a coach for Utah State University Eastern. Scott graduated from Bonneville High School in Idaho Falls, ID where he played football, basketball, and baseball. His senior year he was voted as the male athlete of the year for the high school.

He received his MBA from Southern New Hampshire University, a bachelors from Bellevue University, and an associate’s degree from the College of Eastern Utah.

Scott is a native of Idaho Falls, ID. He met his wife, Denice, of 18 years while serving as an assistant coach in Price, UT. They now have five children together: Kyler (wife- Emily), Tenley, Tyrus, Taesyn, and Chelsey
