USU Eastern Softball Drops Weekend Series Against No. 6 Bruins

Game 3

In an intense third game of the series, USU Eastern faced a tough challenge against No. 6 Salt Lake Community College, ultimately falling 3-11.

Salt Lake set a demanding pace early in the game, picking up 8 runs in the first inning.  From the mound, Addison Hess struggled to contain an explosive Salt Lake offense, giving up two home runs during her time in the circle, including a grand slam and a three-run homer.

The Lady Eagles responded in the bottom of the first with two runs. Maddy Jennings smashed a two-run homer, however, the early momentum was difficult to sustain against SLCC's pitching.  In the bottom of the fourth, Gia Bruno drove in a run with a single, attempting to ignite a rally.  Paige Herbon contributed with a hit and a walk but the Lady Eagles were unable to capitalize.

Brinley Johnson, who took over pitching duties after the first inning, gave up just three runs over four innings to help stabilize the game.

Game 4

The Lady Eagles were unable to gain the advantage over SLCC in their final showdown of the weekend as the series concluded with a 0-7 defeat.

Salt Lake again started strong, scoring early in the first inning and adding two more runs in the second.  Eastern's pitching, shared between Brinley Johnson and Addison Hess, faced relentless pressure. Johnson, who started the game, allowed three runs in the first inning on four hits. Hess took over from the second inning, pitching six innings and giving up four runs, three earned, on three hits and four walks but was unable to cool down Salt Lake's offense.

SLCC's pitching wouldn't allow the Eagle's lineup to find their rhythm, with only Gia Bruno, Brooklyn Gramse, and Marli Pearson managing to secure hits in the game.

USU Eastern (21-20, 13-19) will travel to Henderson, Nevada for a four-game series against the College of Southern Nevada (13-29, 8-22) beginning on Friday, April 26 at 1:00 p.m. PST.  Fans can watch the games live on the Scenic West Digital Network.
