Lady Eagles Split Doubleheader With Southern Nevada To Open Series

Game 1

It was an exciting conclusion to their series opener against the College of Southern Nevada as USU Eastern softball clinched a thrilling 10-8 victory with a decisive walk-off home run in the final inning. The game was evenly matched at eight runs each until Micaela Resler delivered a game-winning two-run homer to center field at the end of the seventh inning.

Resler was a standout performer, going 3-for-4 at the plate, including her crucial home run in the seventh, along with singles in both the third and fourth innings.

The Coyotes initially took the lead in the second inning and was extended in the third inning, however, Eastern flipped a switch in the third inning, putting up five runs off five hits, highlighted by Gia Bruno's two-RBI single that helped the Lady Eagles take a 5-4 lead.

The Coyotes momentarily regained the lead in the seventh but the Eagles rallied back in the bottom half with Brinnley Anderson's RBI double followed by Resler's decisive homer, pushing the score to 10-8.

Pitcher Addi Hess was credited with the win for USU Eastern after a six-inning effort where she allowed five earned runs from 14 hits, striking out five and issuing four walks.

Game 2

In the second game of their doubleheader on Friday, the matchup against the Coyotes was a challenging one, suffering a 12-1 defeat.  Southern Nevada established an early lead, doubling in the first inning to bring in a run. The Eagles briefly equalized in the bottom of the first when Gia Bruno doubled on an 0-2 count, making the score 1-1.

However, the Coyotes dramatically changed the course of the game in the second inning by stacking up 11 runs from eight hits, propelling them to a commanding 12-1 lead.  Addi Hess took the mound after the starting pitcher Brinley Johnson, faced a tough outing. Johnson gave up seven runs in just over an inning, with two strikeouts and four walks.

Bruno batted in the team's sole run. Alongside Bruno, Kailey Alas, Brooklyn Gramse, and Brinnley Anderson each managed a hit, contributing to the Eagles' offensive efforts. However, their attempts weren't enough to mount a comeback.

The Lady Eagles will look to take the series lead tomorrow, March 23 with an earlier game time of 11:00 a.m. as they face another doubleheader against the College of Southern Nevada.
