PRICE – Utah State Eastern men's soccer lost to the College of Southern Nevada Coyotes 3-2 in overtime on Wednesday in Henderson.
It was a close first half with not much scoring until the final few minutes when the Eagles took a 1-0.
USU Eastern's
Hayden Howard scored the goal in 42' minute with an assist by
Connor Woodyatt.
After halftime, sophomore
Mat Clark scored quickly in the 46' minute to put the Eagles up 2-0.
Frank DeBry assisted Clark on that first goal of the second half.
Penalties and some intense battles on the field led to momentum completely switching toward the direction of CSN in the second half.
"The game would have been a lot different if we didn't receive a red card as we were playing around them all game until we got that red card," said USU Eastern's
Garrett Boston.
CSN would put the ball in the back of the net in the 53' minute off the foot of Luis Olandez to cut the Eagles' lead to 2-1.
The Coyotes would tie the game up at 2-2 in the 84' minute when Marcos Delangel-Parr scored a goal.
After three minutes into overtime, CSN's Manuel Ponce would score off a penalty kick to give the Coyotes the overtime win.
"It was a very disappointing game. We played a great first half but not a great second half. Some poor calls and our players losing their cool ultimately cost us the game," said USU Eastern Head Coach
Ammon Bennett.
Boston said after the game that he felt his team played well despite the adversity faced in the second half.
"It was a hard fought game. All players played well especially those that came in for our players that were getting tired," said Boston.
Now the Eagles move on to their final road game of the regular season with a game on Friday against #20 Snow College.
Friday's game in Ephraim will kick off following the women's game at approximately 3 p.m.
