PRICE, UTAH – Utah State Eastern volleyball defeated the Colorado Northwest Spartans 3-0 Saturday in Price.
The Eagles swept the Spartans in their first home game of the season in front of a energetic crowd.
After the game Utah State Eastern's
Hailee Frey said the crowd was great in helping her team grab the win.
"It was really awesome to see everyone come out and support us because it helped us with keeping the energy up and keep us pushing throughout the match," said Frey.
The Eagles took the first set 25-21 but Colorado Northwest came back in the second set to make it a tough for the Eagles.
During the second set the Spartans took a 24-23 lead after an Abbey Rocha kill.
With the chance to lose the set, the Eagles made enough defensive plays to come back and win the set according to Utah State Eastern Head Coach
Danielle Jensen.
"We just finally playing defense and that produced offense and we came out with the set win."
The Eagles would go on and win the final set 25-20 to close out the match.
Frey said after the match her team followed her coach's directions and pulled it out the second set win.
"Coach got us to work more as a team to communicate and to relax and play our game," Frey said.
Making her first start of the season, Frey helped the Eagles on both sides of the net said Jensen.
"She did awesome, she did exactly what we needed her to do and she had some great offensive plays for us," said Jensen.
Frey finished the match with four kills and one dig along with scoring four points.
Leading the Eagles with 13 kills was sophomore Sidney Springer. She also had eight assists and a dig against CNCC.
Sophomore setter Agatha Roese-Olsen finished the game with 29 assists.
After the game Jensen said winning the first game is very important to her and her program.
"It is so big to win and its important to win at home because our community supports us and we want to win in front of them." said Jensen.
With the win, the Eagles have an overall record of 14-3 and a 1-0 conference record.
The Eagles will have a full week of preparation before heading down to Ephraim to take on #10 Snow College next Saturday.
Next Saturday's match will be the third time this season the Eagles will play a top ten nationally ranked.
