Biography

Joseph Valencia, originally from Bogotá, Colombia, is a skilled 6'8" center who has made a name for himself on the basketball court. He spent his 10th and 11th grades at NFEI, where he helped lead his team to the Final Four of the state championship both years. For his senior year, Joseph attended Brittain Academy, where he played on the CBA team. His team had an impressive 40-game season, finishing with a 31-9 record.

Joseph comes from a traditional Latin family, consisting of his mother, grandmother, and younger brother. His mother is a nurse and medical auditor, while his grandmother is retired. Joseph’s younger brother is currently in kindergarten. His father, though not living with them, has always been a supportive presence. His father also has a basketball background, having played professionally in Colombia, and holds degrees in systems engineering and business administration.

Outside of basketball, Joseph is passionate about video games, cooking, and making music. He speaks two languages and is working to learn more. Academically, Joseph is driven by a desire to become a neurologist. His love for learning and commitment to his goals led him to USU Eastern, where he was awarded a sports scholarship. At USU Eastern, Joseph is excited to pursue his dream of excelling in basketball while working towards his goal of becoming a doctor.
