The Utah State Eastern men's basketball team took on the Colorado Northwestern Community College Spartans in a conference road matchup.
To open the game, the Eagles used a 9-1 run to steal momentum to start the half. Ike Palmer scored seven of the first nine points to get the Eagles going. The Spartans battled to get the Eastern lead down to seven, but the Eagles' largest lead of the half came with just under three minutes left after Ike Paalmer made a shot to give Eastern a 14-point lead. After the strong half, the Eagles took a 45-34 lead into the half.
Ike Palmer had 13 points at the break to lead the Eagles offensively. The Eagles also forced nine Spartan turnovers to supplement the offensive firepower.
The Eagles came out of the break on fire, using an 18-2 run to grow their lead to 27 points. With eight minutes left, the Eagles saw their lead grow to a game-high 38 points. USU Eastern cruised till the clock ran out, defeating the Spartans 85-62.
Ike Palmer led the Eagles with 20 points on an efficient 9-11 night from the field. Seven Bahati (12) and Ethen Stoddard (11) also finished with double figures.
Next for the Eagles is a conference game against Salt Lake Community College. With a win, the Eagles will put more room between them and the Bruins in the Scenic West Athletic Conference standings. Tip-off is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 7, at 3:00 p.m.
