A dominant fourth quarter lifted the USU Eastern Lady Eagles past the No. 14 ranked College of Southern Idaho Golden Eagles 54-46 Saturday night in Twin Falls, Idaho.
Trailing 41-38 entering the fourth quarter, the Lady Eagles closed the game on a 16-5 run, capturing their largest lead with under a minute to play.
Marlee Pieper and McKenzie Allen delivered a potent 1-2 punch for the Eagles, scoring 12 points and eight rebounds. Addasyn Scrivner scored nine points and Ellie Esplin finished with seven.
The Lady Eagles flipped the game with stellar defense over the final 10 minutes. CSI struggled to find consistency on the offensive end, finishing 2-14 from the field in the fourth quarter.
Savannah Stoker and Samara Morrow produced 10 of 11 bench points for the Eagles. Six players recorded at least one steal in an all-around stellar team performance.
Saturday's win allowed the Lady Eagles to close out one of the most important road trips of the season 2-1. Starting a three-game road swing with a win over Snow College, the team suffered a 70-59 loss to North Idaho in Coeur d' Alene.
USU Eastern currently has control of the fourth and final spot in the upcoming conference tournament. With only seven games remaining in the regular season, the Eagles are only two games back of Salt Lake Community College for the top spot in the conference.
Five of the final seven games will be played at home, beginning Thursday against Salt Lake Community College. The two teams have met once this season, with Salt Lake earning a 51-40 win back on Jan. 4.
