Lady Eagles Fall To Badgers In Conference Opener

USU Eastern women's soccer kicked off their conference season with a tough loss against Snow College, falling 4-2. Despite the result, Eastern showcased some stellar moments on the field, particularly from standout forward Andie Andrus, who netted both of the team's goals.

The game opened with a quick strike from Snow College in the 5th minute, but Eastern refused to back down, creating opportunities throughout the half. Andrus brought the home crowd to life right before halftime, scoring an unassisted goal in the 44th minute to cut the deficit to 2-1.

Eastern came out strong in the second half with Andrus once again proving her value, slotting home her second goal just four minutes into the half, assisted by forward Ellyse Kessler. The tying goal set the tone for a back-and-forth battle, but Snow College regained momentum in the final 20 minutes, scoring twice to seal the game.

Defensively, Eastern goalkeeper Sarah Newman put up a strong performance with five crucial saves against Snow's relentless attack. Eastern's defense held firm through the match, matching Snow's intensity, but couldn't completely stifle the offensive pressure in the closing moments.

Eastern created 11 shots, with four of them on target, but Snow's defense, led by goalkeeper Hayley Ogden, held firm in the later stages of the match. Despite the loss, Eastern's promising display, particularly from players like Andrus and Kessler, sets a positive tone for the rest of the conference play.

USU Eastern (2-1-1, 0-1) hit the road this next week as they travel to Rangely, Colorado to take on Colorado Northwestern Community College (5-0, 1-0) at 1 p.m. on Thursday, September 12.
