PRICE – The Utah State Eastern men's soccer team lost to the Salt Lake Community College Bruins 3-0 last Friday in Herriman.
It was the third loss of the season to the Bruins at Zion's Bank Stadium in addition to the 2-0 home loss in Price on October 19.
The Bruins scored a goal in the 29' minute off the foot of Estaban Celis to go up 1-0 at halftime.
"In the first half of the game we were the better team and we out shot them with the goalkeeper making some great saves. If we would have made any of those shots we would have been right there in the game," said USU Eastern Head Coach Bennett.
In the second half the Eagles allowed two more goals Enoch Mushagalusa and Innocent Twishime to put the game away.
With the loss to Salt Lake the Eagles finish the season 8-9 overall and 4-8 in conference play.
Bennett says the loss also concludes a very interesting season for his program which is in it's fifth year of existance.
"It was a very talented group but not it did not quite reach it's potential. We had moments where we had injuries or poor play that kept us out of the game. Sometimes we were our own worst enemy," said Bennett.
Moving forward, Bennett said his team will look to bounce back next year despite having to some key two-year starters.
"We lose some great sophomores that will be hard to replace including
Mat Clark,
Jojea Kwizera,
Guillermo Hernandez,
Tyler Malan,
Frank DeBry,
Said Mohamed,
Connor Woodyatt and
Garrett Boston," said Bennett.
Boston and DeBry were both two-time all-conference honorees in their career at USU Eastern. DeBry also finished the season as the team's leading scorer.
The Eagles will have the winter off to do conditioning until Spring scrimmages happen in early March.
