10/14/2017 7:49:00 PM

Box Score PRICE, UTAH – The no. 18 Utah State Eastern volleyball defeated the Colorado Northwest Spartans 3-1 on Saturday in Rangely, Colorado.

The Eagles win against CNCC completes the regular season sweep of the Spartans even if they got a scare in the first set on Saturday.

Colorado Northwest won the first set 25-22 over the Eagles. It was the first Spartan's set win against USU Eastern since 2015.

Eagles' Head Coach Danielle Jensen said that the outcome of the first set was due to the few errors her team had.

"The girls came ready to play and in set one we made some errors that cost us the set," said Jensen.

Both teams battled in the second set but the Eagles were able to grab the set by a score of 27-25

After the eight minute timeout between the second and third set, things started to change in favor of the Eagles.

The Eagles won the third set 25-16 and according to freshman Mackenzie Carter, the fun her and her teammates were having on the floor was the reason for the set win.

"In sets three and four were having more fun and that translated to us having more energy on the court. We were playing as a team and when we do that the outcome is always great," said Carter.

Carter's play on the floor was one of the other reason why the Eagles pulled it together and won the game according to Coach Jensen.

"She had an amazing game tonight, she was huge player for us all around, from the back row, serving and putting the ball away on the net," said Jensen.

Carter finished the game with a 15 kills, 11 digs, and 20.5 points. The game on Saturday was statistically her best conference game this season.

According to Carter, it has been her teammates support that has helped her improve during her freshman season at USU Eastern.

"The support of my team has helped me become a better player. I always want to do the best I can for them and that is what has helped me improve the most," said Carter.

The Eagles would go on to win the fourth set 25-13 to snap a three-game losing streak with the match win.

Sophomore Sidney Springer had a team-high 18 kills against Colorado Northwest along with 11 digs.

Sophomore Agatha Roese-Olsen had another big night as the setter after finishing the game with 47 assists.

Freshmen Sarah Mafi and Megan Gurr each led the Eagles defensively with 16 digs each.

Coach Jensen and the Eagles will now have almost a full week to prepare for nationally ranked Snow College whom they will play on next Friday night.

"We are excited for this week, it will be a big week for our team and we need to continue to fine tune a few things and keep pushing to reach our full potential," said Jensen.

The Eagles will finish this season's home schedule next Saturday with a match against the College of Southern Nevada as well.
